YouTube Link[edit]
The YouTube link to their channel comes up wrong. I don't know what the fix would be. Apparently, Wikipedia's code is interfering. --2602:306:CFF2:5100:D41A:87BB:8395:460E (talk) 22:53, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Significance[edit]
I'm sorry, what is the significance of this being listed as part of the My Little Pony Franchise? User:AFanCorp
- The project's already been highlighted in multiple sources that qualify as legitimate under wikipedia standards. It's notability has been established, if only just barely. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 00:47, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm surprised this article passed notability standards. But heck, I'm just excited to actually try this game out. ☆ Antoshi ☆T | C 19:49, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
I fail to see the significance of this article. No one talks about it even in the brony community save for when it was first announced and when that livestream came out. How in any way has this game made any impact on the My Little Pony franchise or community? If this question can't be answered then this article shouldn't exist. Otherwise the significance of the game should be added to the article because this article seems nothing more than an advertisement to me. Ce Ne Pas un Username (talk) 23:10, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- The subject has multiple reliable sources discussing it, having it meet the general notability guideline, which is why the article exists. SilverserenC 01:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
This is an unfinished, unlicensed, simple browser game. One of many that constantly released, dozens come out every month, they do not all merit an article on Wikipedia. Yes, multiple websites about casual gaming have mentioned this upcoming game, the same is true of many other free online games. But should every one of them have their own page? This is shameless self promotion of something very insignificant. (Drelostams (talk) 06:13, 5 December 2011 (UTC))
- A) It's a full, downloadable title, not a simple browser game. B) Because of coverage in multiple reliable sources like the Escapist, Joystiq, G4, and GamePro, it has met the guideline for notability and is therefore eligible for an article. C) You can't say it's self-promotion if none of the page editors are actually associated with the game. D) The article was already been nominated for deletion once, andmost of the commenters argued against deletion; furthermore, the article has only improved in the four months since, and it's only going to get better as more sites cover it and more devblogs are released regarding the game's mechanics and development cycle. So no, deletion is hardly necessary. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 06:50, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Clearly just self-advertisement. If this is the case, I should get to make a Wiki page for every crappy RMXP game I've ever dumped out. Please try to keep things in perspective. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.221.140.211 (talk) 21:51, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- See above. It's not self promotion, and it's met notability guidelines. It stays. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 22:43, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Images[edit]
So, I added an image of the character selection screen. Should I add any gameplay screenshots to the page? Thanks.--COOLTUX345 (talk) 14:52, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think at least one gameplay screen would be a good idea. If possible, try to grab one using the most recent HUD layout; if the interface changes between now and release, we can always replace it later. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 07:31, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- That may be hard to acquire, but I'll try my best.COOLTUX345 (talk) 00:41, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- Update: There are no full-sized screenshots with a newer version of the interface, but there are a couple that show part of the screen, or show the entire screen but use the old GUI.COOLTUX345 (talk) 00:45, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

- Excellent. Let's replace the character select screen with the proper logo, and add the 'Round 1' screen to the body since it uses the current interface. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 17:09, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
External links[edit]
Is it really appropriate to link to EqD and ponychan from the article? Eqd could possibly be used as a source, however I see no use for linking to ponychan, considering all content on an image board will eventually 404 anyway. I have removed both links, please revert and discuss if you do not agree. --Princess Derpy (talk) 21:23, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. Using blogs for citations is against Wikipedia standards anyway.94.14.125.145 (talk) 14:39, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Wrong picture in thumbnail[edit]
Is it just my computer, or is the wrong screenshot displaying as the thumbnail for the character selection screen in this article? If you click it, it shows the current picture, but the thumbnail in the article shows the old picture. Is there a way to fix this? Has it happened before? dogman15 (talk) 21:33, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's doing that for me too, which is odd, considering it was displaying the new image just fine a few days ago. Maybe try taking it to the Help Desk?
- Nothing there really appeals to me as being able to help me with this specific issue. It's all about problems that could normally be fixed by simple editing, nothing about technical issues like this that are beyond editing. dogman15 (talk) 04:11, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Normally you'd have to flush the cache, you do this by going to the picture, clicking edit, then replace the '&action=edit' in your browser with '&action=purge'. That's usually how one fixes the thumbnail displaying wrong, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Perhaps because I'm not logged in. 97.106.171.58 (talk) 15:55, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

I have serious notability concerns with this article[edit]
Don't get me wrong. I'm a brony and I was a fan of Fighting is Magic. However, much of the sourcing of this article is from blogs, and at least one 'official' article has already been taken down because they were erroneously informed that Mane6 were licensed by Hasbro.
I do not think that Fighting is Magic should have its own article. THere are other fan works that are more popular, and more notable, than Fighting is Magic. Equestria Daily doesn't have its own article, either. This reads like a self-promotion. And in the end, it is a fan work. Fan works face a high scrutiny for notability. ~ PonyToast..§ 17:17, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- EqD did have an article, but it was removed for not having significant enough coverage in third-party sources. Fighting is Magic, on the other hand, has received much more media attention, especially in the wake of its EVO nomination and recent cancellation. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:42, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- Out of the dozen+ sources, only a couple are from the mane6 blog or MLP-fandom sites. The rest are video game journalism or other journalism sites. We even had a full article on the game's development history from Gamespot. Notability is clearly passed here. --MASEM (t) 19:20, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
It has more then ten sources, which is generally the rule for software, products and services, and should be allowed to stay. Icedog (talk) 04:35, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
Renaming article once new game concept is revealed[edit]
Given that the team has said they're pretty much done w/ this as Fighting is MAgic, but are going forward with Faust's characters, I suggest keeping this article but renaming it to what the final name is, since the bulk of the work on the game so far will carry into the new one (even to the point that the new characters sound like they will remain 4-legged creatures). A separate page for the new game from this would not make much sense. --MASEM (t) 18:48, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- According to this article on Polygon, the game is now simply called 'Fighting is Magic'. Enough to justify a rename and the rewriting of certain portions? -- 69.14.66.237 (talk) 04:31, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- You're right, I missed that. I will rename right now. --MASEM (t) 06:29, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Too much conjecture[edit]
This article is riddled with conjecture and grammatical errors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.179.36.227 (talk • contribs) 5:35, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- The article isn't locked; if you find any errors you can change them. --Yellow1996 (talk) 21:34, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
This article needs a lot of work[edit]
Most of this article is about the now defunct fan game that didn't really deserve an article, and has very little information about the actual game that is coming out. I mean there's not even a list of the Them's Fighting Herds characters. The focus of the article needs to be shifted back to Them's Fightin' Herds, and the portion on the Fighting is Magic and it's history needs to be reduced tremendously. 68.13.247.161 (talk) 08:32, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- The information comes from cited sources. More sources cover the Fighting is Magic, therefore the sections about that game are longer. When Them's Fighting Herds is released I expect far more coverage for the new game and the focus will appropriately shift. There is no need to remove cited material, especially when it's relevant to the development of the new game. Furry-friend (talk) 09:32, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
So why isn't Lauren Faust considered a/the writer?[edit]
She created the characters and the world/lore. Surely that counts for some sort of writing? Dogman15 (talk) 09:09, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- This appears to be an issue with one anonymous editor, who has since not presented reasoning behind their edits. I wouldn't be opposed to the inclusion, though I think it would be best to wait for the game to release and mirror the credits presented in-game to our infobox. Lordtobi (✉) 09:43, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Do the prerelease versions not have credits? Can I at least add 'Lauren Faust (characters)'? Dogman15 (talk) 12:01, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
Screenshot of TFH itself?[edit]
Right now, we have a screenshot of Fighting is Magic's character selection screen. Shouldn't we also have a screenshot of Them's Fightin' Herds, either its character selection screen, or two characters on a battle stage facing each other, or perhaps something else? Dogman15 (talk) 07:25, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- Sure, the article could use one or two more images. Furry-friend (talk) 13:31, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
- What do you think would be best? I can get any screenshot you want from my copy of the game. Dogman15 (talk) 08:45, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic was a fanmade Fighting Game being developed by Mane6. It featured characters from the first season of the TV series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
The final version of the game was to feature 17 characters.
There is a forum discussion about it here. A state-of-the-state overview of the game can be found here.
See also Super Smash Ponies, another fighting game based on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The strokes comedown machine rar 320.
Production was halted on February 8th 2013 due to a cease and desist order from Hasbro, while Mane6 attempted legal negotiations. On March 2nd of 2013, Mane6 revealed that, although their efforts to get special permission from Hasbro to continue the game have met with nothing but dead ends, they still plan to finish the game in a different form (but retaining all of the game mechanics). To that end, Lauren Faust herself has joined the Mane6 team to design all-new characters. Also on March 27, 2013, the Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign raised $725,000 USD, allowing Mane6 use of that game's engine for free. In January 2014, Lauren Faust revealed the first un-finalized character design for a reindeer character.

A Tribute Edition of this game (with complete character designs for Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy) can be found here.
A Mega Edition of the game is currently being worked on. The most recent version includes Trixie (but not Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy).
On October 31st 2014, an image of a mysterious book with what appears to be a lamb peeking out of it was posted on Mane6's twitter, and on August 28th 2015, the game's spiritual successor was revealed to beThem's Fightin' Herds. Please put all tropes pertaining specifically to the new game on that page.

My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic contained examples of: (Character-specific tropes go here)
- Autobots, Rock Out!: Rainbow Dash's stage theme.
- Badass Adorable: Pretty much everyone.
- Crazy Enough to Work: Well, it WAS a fighting game featuring the cast of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
- Even without the Friendship is Magic cast, the idea of quadrupedal fighters offers some unique ideas.
- Downer Ending: The cease and desist being a meta one..
- Bittersweet Ending: ..then again, Lauren Faust joined the team to help design a Spiritual Successor. Not to mention they have access to the Skullgirls engine.
- Determinator: The dev team. Even though the C&D rendered the game's fate uncertain and was no doubt a major blow to them, they later stated'We aren't done yet regardless of how this turns out, so please stay tuned'.
- Case in point: Lauren Faust is now on board to make a brand new title.
- Also the fans who made the Tribute Edition.
- Fighting Your Friend: The developers promised a good reason for this when it still used the Mane 6.
- Improbable Weapon User: Twilight uses a book, Rarity uses design supplies & accessories, AJ uses a lasso, and Pinkie uses everything her Party Cannon shoots out. Angel and the rest of Fluttershy's animal friends are used for her special attacks
- Game Mod: There are a couple of bronies who want to continue with the original project and did so, by making Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Trixie playable.
- Guest Fighter: While there are many fan-made characters, the odd man out is Oni
- Launcher Move: All characters have at least one, performed by pressing down-forward and heavy attack.
- Lethal Joke Character: On a stream posted February 21, Fluttershy was shown briefly. Though she's obviously far from complete and has only one move, that move is the Stare.
- Leitmotif: Each of the characters have music inspired by songs from the show.
- Applejack's battle theme, or rather the theme of Sweet Apple Acres, has hints of 'Winter Wrap-Up' in it.
- The theme of Twilight's library contain bits of 'At the Gala,' as well as a short section from the show's main theme.
- Rarity's stage theme has a tiny bit of the song 'Art of the Dress'.
- Pinkie Pie's theme includes a piece of 'Giggle at the Ghostly'.
- Rainbow Dash's theme features Rainbow Dash's verse of 'At the Gala' quite heavily.
- Fluttershy's theme contains parts inspired by 'Hush Now Quiet Now'.
- Mane6 has now confirmed that while the composers of the original music are still on board, the new version will sport brand new pieces.
- Limit Break: Each character has Level 1 and Level 3 supers. Some have a Level 2 super as well, normally the Level 1 with something extra added on. We don't know how the new version of the game will handle this yet.
- Mana Meter: Each character has a magic meter that fills up when certain conditions are met. Magic is used to enhance certain attacks.
- Medium Awareness: Two victory quotes:
- Twilight: 'Dear Princess Celestia, today I learned what O.T.G. means.'note
- Pinkie: 'I won! The screen says I won!'
- Perfect-Play A.I.: The CPU-controlled Twilight during the second livestream, according to the devs.
- This is more notable in the Tribute Edition of the game where the AI will block your attacks and counter almost all of them every time. Things get worse if the ai has a projectile attack like Twilight and Rarity.
- Power Creep, Power Seep: Inevitable. Twilight Sparkle is the both incredibly gifted and extensively studied student of magic of Celestia, but her experience is combat is paltry at best. Rainbow Dash is one of the fastest pegasi in Equestria, but also has demonstrated no real combat proficiency. Applejack is quite strong and fit, but a good deal of her time is devoted to the management of a farm. Pinkie Pie has Reality Warper powers, but the show demonstrates that she's generally unable to use them to any practical effect. Rarity isn't afraid to get in a fight to defend herself, but would rather rely on her wit and charm. And worst is Fluttershy, who can become aggressive when pushed, but is basically a pacifist more often than not. In just the main six characters, fighting potential ranges from very high to none at all.
- Somewhat averted. Episodes like A Canterlot Wedding have shown all of the Mane 6 (besides Fluttershy) to be capable fighters. However, it's still played straight in that some of the characters, like Twilight, should be much more dangerous than others.
- Running Gag: When talking about what types of controllers can be used for the game during the second live-stream, using a DDR pad to play is jokingly brought up. The Mane 6 then proceed to joke about people actually USING it, asking anyone who does to post it on YouTube.
- Scenery Porn: This blog post shows that the backgrounds will be insanely detailed and destructible. How much will be changed in the new version remains to be seen.
- Shout-Out: Has its own page.
- Sixth Ranger: Lauren joined Mane Six to help with a Spiritual Successor.
- Spiritual Antithesis: To Eternal Fighter Zero. EFZ has an all-human cast from visual novels and grants them powers they didn't have in canon while FiM has an all-equine cast from a cartoon and uses powers from said cartoon.
- Teleport Spam: Twilight Sparkle is capable of this, as is Pinkie Pie, although Pinkie just runs off one end of the screen and wraps around to the other side. She's also somehow able to run off the side of the screen and deliver an elbow drop from above.
- Versus Character Splash: Not as of yet before the fight, but rather the characters each have a splendid splash art portrait in the character selection screen.
- Implemented into the character select screen as of Canterlot Gardens tournament.
- Victory Quote: Most of the mane 6 have several.
- Wings Do Nothing: Purposely averted by the dev team, who stated that pegasi would be able to make use of their wings.
